extend & extend-protocol with (Class/forName "[B") as Class dispatch value fails

using extend instead of extend-protocol returns a type error:

Type Error (qbits/alia/codec.clj:75:1) Must provide

            a Class or nil as first argument to extend, got
            java.lang.Class 

`
