I'd answer that the documentation is about the var (the symbol), not about the value.

The usage is (-> #'user-id meta :doc), and not (-> user-id meta :doc).

This is how my mental model works.

I think this is fixed, but note that your browser may have cached the redirect on that particular jira above if you retry so it might still look broken if you retry that one.

Yes, I did this on a handful of old releases to relocate some traffic from old (download.clojure.org) to new (github) download locations. No plans to do any more.

I did try a GFM plugin for the platform (question2answer) when we put the site together but it was pretty broken. I'd love to do so, and it's entirely possible such a thing exists but this is the kind of infrastructure work we rarely get around to.

In the editor, the top bar displays {} - select the code block and press that button to make that block properly formatted.

It's similar to StackOverflow - code blocks are distinguished by each line being indented with a few spaces on the left.

https://github.com/clj-python/libpython-clj is very actively developed and allows the use of Python from Clojure. I'm not sure what the use case would be for "targeting Python" that's not satisfied by libpython-clj.

We did it for several years and then had a couple years where they did not accept Clojure as a project. I ran the administrative aspects of it prior to that via Cognitect, not really something I'm eager to take on again, but would be happy to cheerlead someone else doing so.

If you already have an idea of some basic programming ideas from python then you're in good shape to learn Clojure.

I think when learning anything in the beginning it's important to get a lot back for a little effort, with this in mind I would always try to limit the amount of unknowns at first.

Clojure requires a host language to run, this is actually a fantastic feature as it benefits from a massive reach and the richest library ecosystems. For a beginner though this means at some point you'll find yourself having to learn either Java or JavaScript to some degree when writing your programs. This can cause extra friction in the beginning so my advice is based around avoiding this until you've gotten some confidence in the core language.

Clojure also benefits from fantastic tooling, but it can be a little difficult to set up for a total beginner when you just want to get on and learn.

To learn the language I think a good way to start would be to use an online REPL and the book: Clojure for the brave and true. I would copy and paste example code and play around with it, testing your understanding of what you are reading.

Once you feel like you understand it enough to test yourself a bit more you can try a little challenge: Clojurescript Koans

Hopefully by now you would have some understanding and you want to write some programs.

The prescribed way would be to install Java and follow the getting started guide:

You can start looking into "REPL Driven Development" and getting a text editor set up for fast feedback whilst you are developing (one of the great joys of Clojure).

Another way might be to get a copy of the Babashka binary, this is a batteries included (large) subset of Clojure, the reason I bring it up is because it's a very simple thing to install and it allows you to write real programs without having to do as much set up. This being said if you want to use some libraries you would need to be using the JVM Clojure to do that.

There are a lot of resources out there for learning Clojure, start off with the core language and the repl and work your way out to the domains that interest you :)

thanks for the response, but i can not do it this way. In fact it's not a library or something reusable that can be set in a lib or even a name space i think, because i can put all in the war file and not have separated jar library use with NetBeans for a public part of web site and after i developed a password protected part of site that use compojure. So in fact i could revamp all the code in one single .war compojure file. But it is faster to stay like that...

so i found this solution, ah ah this is basically a hack, a UNIX hack i admit it, to share the common file i made a symbolic link:

ln -s ../../../../sidonie-admin2/src/sidonie_admin2/sidonie-common.clj symbolic-link-sidonie-common.clj

and i changed a bit the way to load file instead of load-file i use load:

(load "symbolic-link-sidonie-common")

works also with hard link, but my Dropbox account does not support hard link,also this solution should works under windows as it supports also links.

so i can edit a simple files that is shared on many projects, and i can edit it from any directory .

Under emacs had to had (setq backup-by-copying-when-linked t) in .emacs to avoid the mv (move) feature of emacs .~ backup files that put the mess with links.

i admit it is not the perfect solution but the question also was not perfect ;-)

It is possible that any software for creating a web site could implement those ideas (given the proper time, skills, and software development effort), and it is pretty clear from Evan Czaplicki's talk that he is hoping someone creates such software: https://github.com/matthiasn/talk-transcripts/blob/master/Czaplicki_Evan/TheHardPartsOfOpenSource.md

That said, unless the software that Alex Miller selected already has some configuration option or add-on package that takes him an hour or less to enable it, my guess is that he is so busy with other things that it isn't in his interest to do so.

I do not spend much time outside of on-line programming communities other than ones focused on Clojure, but I have heard multiple comments by newcomers that they find other Clojurians helpful and polite, so unless this becomes an issue, we can just try to continue being helpful and polite in the mean time.

It’s https://www.question2answer.org/ which is written in PHP. It was chosen because it’s a free, production tested app with a ton of plugins available that covered what we wanted to do.

If someone wants to build a feature parity app in Clojure, we’d be happy to use it, but that doesn’t exist afaik.
